Young people aged 10-16 in Bury St Edmunds will continue to have a safe, welcoming place to meet over the summer, with both Town Council-commissioned Teen Chill sessions remaining open throughout the school holidays.

The weekly sessions, which take place at Newbury Community Centre, Monday evenings 7.00-9.00pm and Moreton Hall Community Centre, Tuesday evenings 6.30-8.30pm, have already become a well-established part of local support for young people and will continue to offer a relaxed space where attendees can spend time with friends, take part in activities and access a positive environment during the break.

By staying open throughout the summer holidays, the two sessions will help ensure continuity for young people and families who value regular, trusted provision outside term time.

Mayor of Bury St Edmunds, Donna Higgins said:

“We are pleased to announce that the Town Council Commissioned Teen Chill Sessions will continue to run throughout the Summer Holidays. We are delighted to be working with Abbeycroft and their youth workers have formed a great relationship with many of our Town’s young folk. We also fund additional hours for the youth workers to do outreach work and to help signpost young people to safe spaces”

Abbeycroft’s Active Communities Manager, Charlie Potter, said:

“We know how important it is for young people to have somewhere safe, friendly and supportive to go during the summer holidays so we are very grateful to Bury St Edmunds Town Council for funding these sessions. Teen Chill has already been making a real difference in Bury St Edmunds, giving young people the chance to come along, meet friends and feel part of the group and we’d encourage anyone between 10-16 to come and try it this summer.”

Teen Chill is designed to give young people a chance to socialise, build confidence and stay connected in a supportive setting. Keeping both sessions running through the holidays means those benefits will continue at a time when regular school routines pause, and some young people can feel isolated.
